The city’s deadline driven life-style keeps almost everyone busy, so much so that one has little time to care for an accident victim on the wayside.
His telecom consultancy business keeps the soft-spoken and modest Ramakrishna busy like most others. On Sunday, however, the 37-year-old chased a tipper-driver who had fled after raping a woman and caught him in the dead of night.
An unwell Ramakrishna was driving home along with his wife after purchasing medicines from a store at around 1 a.m. He was passing by the CSD junction in Secunderabad Cantonment area when he slammed the brakes on seeing a man answering nature’s call on the roadside.
“It was not the man, but a woman lying naked a couple of yards away in a semi-conscious state which made me feel something was wrong,” the resident of Sainikpuri said on Tuesday. Leaving his wife in the car, he got off and walked towards the man who ran, got into a GHMC tipper parked some distance ahead and sped away.
“I was sure by then that the man had done something wrong and decided to catch him come what may,” he recalled. Even as he pursued the tipper, he realised it would be better to alert the police and rang up the control room on 100.
Prompt police
Within a couple of minutes, three police patrolling vehicles contacted him over phone even as he was hot on the tipper’s trail.
The chase continued for six kilometres. Finally, Ramakrishna caught up with the tipper by blocking its way near St. Ann’s High School in Secunderabad.
“So prompt were the police that within 20 seconds of me intercepting the tipper, their teams had arrived,” he said. The braveheart feels police services on the number 100 need to be publicised.
