Major tragedy averted on Vijayawada-Kazipet trunk route

An alert keyman of the South Central Railway (SCR), part of the foot patrolling team, detected a ‘weld fracture’ on the railway track preventing a potential hazard to fast moving trains on the busy Vijayawada-Kazipet trunk route early on Wednesday morning. Railway engineers rushed to the spot, halted the train services between 5.30 a.m. and 6.15 a.m. to take up emergency repair work, as soon as the alert was received. The fault on the track was detected near Garla station between Dornakal and Gundrathimadugu stations.

Services restored

Two trains -- including Tamil Nadu Express from Chennai to New Delhi (Train No.12621) and a passenger train - Manuguru to Secunderabad (Train No.57626) were partially affected due to the repair work on the track. Normal train services have been restored after the repair work was completed, informed senior officials in Hyderabad.
