Akun Sabharwal gets tough

Holds review meeting with dist. officials

Civil Supplies Commissioner Akun Sabharwal has said that a detailed investigation will be done into the recycling of rice under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

After the enforcement team raided and seized 540 quintals of PDS rice being transported in four lorries recently from Varun Industries at KC Camp, Huzurabad mandal, Karimnagar district, recently, the Commissioner took the issue seriously and transferred officials concerned.

He transferred DCSO A. Usharani and ordered her to report at the Head Office and surrendered Depty Tehsildar M.A.Nawaz and Food Inspector Anwarulla Khan to Revenue Department.

Mr. Sabharwal who visited Karimnagar and Warangal districts last week, inspected IKP purchase centres at Manakondur, Keshavapatnam, Warangal Rural, Urban, Bhoopalapalli, Mahabubabad, Jangaon and Yadadri in view of recent untimely rain and held a review meeting with the department officials.

Paddy purchase

He directed the officials to visit purchase centres and take necessary steps to see that farmers do not face any issues. Paddy purchasing should be completed at the earliest and it should be shifted to the mills immediately, he said.

The Civil Supplies Department so far purchased 20.95 lakh tonnes of paddy from 3.21 lakh farmers through 3,119 purchase centres and 20.06 lakh tonnes of it is already shifted to mills.
