‘Country will grow only when population is under control’

Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar called upon the District Medical and Health Department to launch a massive campaign in the district to educate people on the importance of small family norm.

Participating in the World Population Day observed in the Sircilla textile town on Thursday, he said Kerala and Tamil Nadu States were ahead of others in reducing population growth in their respective States. Expressing concern over population growth, he said the country’s progress depends on its people and population explosion hinders it.

He said India with its existing population of 136 crore would surpass China soon and emerge as the most populated country in the world.

On the occasion, he flagged off a rally from the headquarters hospital to educate people about the benefits of small families. Earlier, he launched Antara, a contraceptive injection for women.

DMHO Chandrashekhar, Nursing College principal Vidyulatha, doctors Rajani, Anil, Mahesh, Sirisha, Santosh and others were also present.

Awareness rallies

NIZAMABAD Special Correspondent adds: Rallies were taken out and seminars conducted in connection with the World Population Day across the erstwhile Nizamabad district on Thursday. District Medical and Health Officer Sudarshanam and Joint Collector P. Yadi Reddy flagged off the rallies in Nizamabad and Kamareddy respectively.

Dr. Sudarshanam said the country would grow only when the population was under control, and added that everyone should make efforts to control population by creating awareness among masses.

Big families, unless they have proper income sources, would suffer from financial problems.

Paramedical students, ASHA workers and others participated in the rallies.
