Adivasis of former composite Adilabad district on Wednesday demanded inclusion of a chapter on late Madavi Tukaram in history books in the State besides establishing a trust in his name.

The tribals from the region also wanted Tukaram’s photo to be displayed in schools and hostels along with that of martyr Kumram Bheem.

The Adivasis were offering tributes to Tukaram, the first aboriginal tribe IAS officer from Adilabad at his native village Lakkaram near Utnoor after garlanding his statue at Utnoor cross road.

The former Project Officer of Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency had died 19 years ago. Mr. Tukaram also served as Collector Nizamabad district. The former bureaucrat suffered from cancer.

Family in penury

Speakers made a fervent plea to the government to come to the rescue of his family which was mired in poverty. Among those who attended the meeting were ITDA Assitant Project Officer (General) Kumram Nago Rao, Special Deputy Collector Rai Sidam Chitru, chairman of Aboriginal Tribes Welfare Advisory Committee Kanaka Lakke Rao and others.
