An NRI, he arrived on the scene a couple of years ago with Karma , a film he directed, produced and also played the lead role in. People looked at him with scepticism then.
Four films down the line, he proved to detractors that he could very easily fit into the roles of a hero, villain and other roles too – judging by his performances in Panja , Balupu and more recently Run Raja Run .
Now, Adivi Sesh is all set to display a different facet of his acting skills with Ladies and Gentleman , directed by newcomer P.B. Manjunath and produced by Madhura Sreedhar of Sneha Geetham , It’s My Love Story and Back Bench Student fame.
Sesh is cast opposite Nikitha Narayan, and others include Chaitanya Krishna, Mahath Raghavendra, Kamal Kamaraj, Swati Dixit and Jasmine Bhasin.
The film deals with the influence of the social media and cyber crimes and Mr. Sreedhar feels the topical issue has been given the right treatment by the director. Music by Raghu Kunche has already attracted attention, what with the promotional song Social Networking Andi Babu… crossing one million views on the internet.
While Adivi Sesh does not have too many ‘superhits’, going by the typical definition in a highly-competitive industry, his acting skills have definitely made people sit up and take notice. Currently, one of the most-talked-about films he is working on is S.S. Rajamouli’s Bahubali .
Poverty of ideas
The creative bankruptcy increasingly observed in the Telugu film industry is not just confined to the story and script departments, but also while naming a film. If it is trying to piggyback on the popularity of a hit song, or the failure to come up with new movie titles, a barrage of movies with such titles are hitting the silver screen in quick succession.
Pilla Nuvu Leni Jeevitham , starring debutant and actor Chiranjeevi’s nephew Sai Dharam Tej, was released with much fanfare. The movie shares its title from a catchy line from Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh . Despite trying something similar, Naga Chaitanya could not get lucky.
His latest Oka Laila Kosam , named after a popular track from his grandfather, the late ANR’s movie Ramudu Kadhu Krishnudu , was not of much help to his career. Following the trend are Chinnadana Nee Kosam starring Nitin, Undhi Le Manchi Kalam Mundu Munduna , Malli Malli Idhi Rani Roju , O Cheliya Na Priya Sakhiya and Ee Varsham Sakshiga . If only our filmmakers realise that a popular hum may not necessarily lead one to the theatre.
