It was her chance meeting with director Y.V.S. Choudary that opened Saiyami Kher’s way to the tinsel town. Kher, the granddaughter of social activist and theatre personality Shaukat Azmi, was thus cast in Choudary’s ‘Rey’, which has Sai Dharam Tej in the lead.
True to her tradition, the girl from Mumbai had a brief exposure to theatre, thanks to her association with Anupam Kher. “I have done a bit of theatre, including being part of Nadira Babbar’s group for a while and some Anupam Kher’s classes. Among my inspirations are Shabana Azmi and Shaukat Azmi.”
On her tryst with films, she recalls how YVS had her auditioned when she was in the final year of her degree in Commerce at Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College.
Before that, she had dabbled in modelling, with her being showcased in the Kingfisher calendar. “The first time I actually posed as a model before a still camera was sometime before, when fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar, a family friend, coaxed me to try out modelling,” she says.
A fitness freak, Kher is a jogger and loves swimming, too. But, she indulges a little when it comes to food, even if it means a little of ‘junk’ experience.
Having almost completed her work for ‘Rey’, Kher is eager to see herself on the big screen when the film releases in February.
