YouTube, a Google subsidiary and an online video community, launched its first pop-up Youtube space or content creation workshop in the city here on Thursday. The pop-up, a first such space launched in India, would run till October 7. The exercise hosted about 800 content creators at Ramoji Film City.

The YouTube already has a permanent space in Whistling Woods film school, Mumbai, where content is created with the aid of film students. Since its launch in 2015, over 7,500 creators have visited the space and produced over 500 videos with free-of-cost access.

Since YouTube has been encouraging original content in regional languages, most of the videos to be produced during the pop-up would not be in English. The exercise is expected to help young regional language YouTube creators to provide rich and engaging visual content across genres. Content created or ideated during the event would be uploaded on Youtube channels of individual participants.

The temporary YouTube space, which would also help content creators from across India network with one another, is expected to create experimental content with high-end professional help. On the first day of the event, videos were recorded using latest competent cameras. Sound and sync tests were also done in the process. Since some of the creators at the workshop were already the ones with successful Youtube channels, the workshop intends to be a training ground for young Youtube users and creators who were still to pick up subscription figures.

In the pop-up, classes would be held on video production and building online business. The training session would help the participants improve digital marketing skills, experts said.

Speaking at the event, Lance Podell, global head of YouTube Spaces, said, “India has a dynamic content creator ecosystem and Hyderabad is one of the creative talent hubs. Success of local language creators like Teluguone, Viva, Chai Bisket, Mahathalli, Kantri guyz, Kiraak hyderabadiz and Khelpedia are great examples of how young creators are redefining entertainment for their audiences on YouTube”. He added that 50 independent creators in India have hit the milestone of one million subscribers in the past 10 to 12 months. Moreover, thousands of creators in India have hit the one lakh subscribers’ mark. “With ever growing Internet user base in India, YouTube presents a tremendous opportunity for emerging language creators to succeed on YouTube and we remain committed to investing in their success,” Mr. Podell said.

Some of the most professionally produced videos from Youtube’s Mumbai base include Sanam’s Pehla Nasha , Prajakta Koli’s project on body shaming with her Shameless video and Shirley Setia’s Sab Tera and SNG Comedy’s What if Planes were Trains .
