Gland Pharma Limited in partnership with Akshaya Patra Foundation launched a breakfast programme in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam on the occasion of Children’s Day on Thursday.

This programme will benefit 7,500 children studying in various government schools in Dundigal, Patancheru, Kandi mandals of Telangana and Duvvada and Parwada mandals of Andhra Pradesh.

Two-and-a-half years

The firm will sponsor the programme for two-and-a-half years.

The programme was inaugurated by Labour Minister Malla Reddy in the presence of managing director (MD) and CEO Srinivas Sadu and president of Akshaya Patra Foundation Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa on Thursday.

“It is a privilege to be associated with Akshaya Patra Foundation and contribute to the society. We extend our heartfelt thanks for including us in this mission and assured of continuing support in future also,” said Mr. Sadu.

“A nutritious breakfast to begin the day will help address hunger among schoolchildren and boost their learning outcomes by improving their concentration level,” said Mr. Chandra Dasa.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments for permission to serve children through the mid-day meal and breakfast programmes.

Gland Pharma had also been adopting several government schools and providing them infrastructure like classrooms, toilets and drinking water.

Akshaya Patra Foundation started its operations with just 1,500 children across five schools.

But, now, it has become the world’s largest not-for-profit organisation that runs mid-day meal (MDM) programmes serving wholesome food to over 18 lakh children from 16,856 schools across 12 states and two Union territories. About 3.20 lakh children are served food in the two Telugu states.
