A handy guide for bird lovers launched

IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon launched a book that can help a lay person make sense of avian fauna in the city on Saturday evening. Titled Birds of Greater Hyderabad, the 340-page book with photographs of the birds by author V.A. Manga is expected to work as a guide.

“For five years, I woke up at 4 a.m. and reached various lakes in and around the city to photograph and see the birds in their habitat. I learnt a lot and realised there are very few guides about birds in the region. That’s when I thought about this book,” said Ms. Manga, a retired teacher.

“Hyderabad has several lakes; it has rocky terrain and three national parks. The range of bird life here is very different. This book will help people identify the birds that are usually seen in the region,” said Ms. Manga.

“Earlier we were surrounded by nature. Sparrows were pests. Now we have to search for sparrows and other wildlife. We have moved completely away from nature. This book will inspire people to go out and preserve nature,” said Ms. Menon of Telangana State Special Protection Force.
