Her name sounds rather strange, considering that it is a combination of three letters of her mother’s and two of her father’s names, but she is not a stranger to the glamour world, as in 2011 she was Miss India People’s Choice and walked away with four more titles – Miss Beautiful Eyes, Smile, Fresh Face and Miss Talented.
Rakul Preet Singh (Father is Rajender and mother is Kulwinder), one of the new faces to be seen in the Telugu film industry, had already acted in a Kannada film ‘Gilli’ in 2008.
Miss India contest
Three years down the line, she participated in Miss India and modelled for brands including Dabur and LG. The ad featuring her for Vicco, she says, with pride.
Asked about her first film and this tall, brown-eyed lass says with an infectious smile, “Raghav Loki, (director of ‘7G Brindavan Colony) had seen my photos in the ads and approached me.
“And honestly, my first thought was it meant more than the pocket money I get from my parents.”
Kollywood
She debuted in Kollywood with ‘Puthagam’, followed by ‘Yennamo Yedho’, a rom-com with Gautham Karthick that was directed by Ravi Thyagarajan.
‘Venkatadri Express’
Now, she has entered into Telugu film industry with ‘Venkatadri Express’ being directed by debutant Gandhi, and paired opposite Sandeep Kishan. The movie is slated to hit the screens on November 29. She has also bagged role in ‘Rough’, another Telugu film starring Aadi.
Asked about her dream role and pat came the reply, “Something like Rani Mukherjee’s in ‘Black’, a performance oriented role.” But then, she hastened to add that she would like to do such roles a few years down the line.
“I know the life of an actress is very short, so I would like to reserve mature roles for later,” she says. Does that mean she’s more inclined to the glam stuff ? “Not exactly. I am fine with glamour as long as it’s sensible and goes with the story,” she says, signing off.
