Visiting Buddhists impressed

It was a ‘blessed day’ for a group of more than 200 Buddhists who saw everything related to Lord Buddha at one place, themed, crafted and arranged in form of episodes in the life of Lord Buddha, at the Buddhavanam here on Thursday.

The Jataka Park showcasing select tales of Gautama Buddha and the Buddhacharitha Vanam displaying major life events in sculpted forms, among other heritage items, caught the attention of the delegation of monks and Buddhists.

In their first visit to a Buddhist holy site in south India, the monks said the idea to build an integrated park for Lord Buddha — Buddhavanam or Sri Parvata Aarama — in Telangana was in itself a tribute recognising the legacy attached with the place.

“Every sculpture is majestic, the collection of Buddha statues are very diverse. We feel very blessed by this visit,” Chief Monk Hsin Ting, leading a group from Taiwan, said. Officials of the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation and the Buddhavanam Project who organised the visit, said the delegates from at least 10 countries were in Telangana, to learn about Buddha. They were shown documentaries on the heritage of Buddhism in Telangana, a tour around the Sri Parvata Aarama and the Nagarjunakonda island.
