Senior Congress leader and MP V. Hanumantha Rao asked Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to take the initiative in ordering a comprehensive probe into former MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s assets.

The probe should cover various aspects relating to deals like Emaar Properties, mining leases, special economic zones and irrigation contracts for bringing out the facts pertaining to allegations, he said. Asked about the role of some Ministers, he said it was the prerogative of the Chief Minister to comment on the issue, but an inquiry should be ordered to enable people know the facts.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao debunked the claims that YSR’s charisma helped the party in coming to power in 2004 and it was his image that ensured the return in 2009 elections. There were several reasons including the downfall of the Telugu Desam for the Congress victory. He faulted Mr. Jagan’s supporters for comparing the latter with Rajiv Gandhi claiming “the Gandhi family has given up its wealth for the nation while Mr. Jagan accumulated crores”.

He recalled the Chief Minister’s challenge to Mr. Jagan’s supporters to quit and contest again and said “the ball is now in their court”. It should be seen whether the elected representatives would quit and contest with YSR’s photo. On separate Telangana, Mr. Rao said the party MPs pleaded with the high command to take a positive decision on the issue..
