Members of Tamil community in the city organised a protest at Indira Park to support Jallikattu on Saturday.

According to the organisers, the protest at Dharna Chowk saw nearly 2,000 persons participate. The protesters held placards voicing support for the banned sport. Most of the protesters were dressed in black to symbolise their protest.

“A bull is treated like a member of a family by people in Tamil Nadu. Groups with vested interests are trying to destroy the indigenous breeds and the Tamil culture,” said S. Saikanth, of Hyderabad Managar Tamil Sangam, the programme’s organisers.

Mr. Saikanth said they had expected around 500 people to participate.
