The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) will take up a weeklong ‘palle baata' programme of going to villages to mobilise support for party from June 3.
Initially, it would be confined to twelve Assembly constituencies where by-elections are due, party leaders Naini Narasimha Reddy and Eatala Rajender told media persons after a meeting of the politburo where the schedule was finalised.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao presided over the meeting.
They said KCR would tour districts during all the seven days. Simultaneously, the party would launch a programme to enrol students who were the backbone of its agitation in the wake of KCR's hunger strike that resulted announcement by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on December 9 expressing commitment to separate Telangana. About ten lakh students were proposed to be enrolled into the party's wing.
Membership drive
The regular membership drive of TRS would be launched in a couple of days with a target of 20,000 an Assembly constituency. The organisational elections would be completed after that. The politburo authorised Mr. Rao to appoint district convenors for the purpose.
Mr. Narasimha Reddy said the politburo stressed the need to expand its base among students by conducting training classes for them. Answering a question, he said the party would give a call to obstruct the tour of Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi in Telangana as it was aimed to slight the agitation. The yatra would have its own consequences, he added.
