TDP plea to disqualify MLAs hangs fire

April 19, 2011 01:43 pm | Updated 01:43 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Legislature authorities are likely to take a day or two before commencing the process on the disqualification petitions filed by the Telugu Desam against three of its MLAs.

A day after Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy clarified the legal position on the issue, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar held detailed deliberations with Legislature secretary S. Rajasadaram and legal council Jandhyala Ravi Shankar on Monday.

The meeting arrived at a consensus on the course of action on petitions against MLAs N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy and Y. Balanagi Reddy, but remained inconclusive on the petition filed against Pocharam Srinivas Reddy who switched loyalties to Telangana Rashtra Samiti and quit from his post subsequently. There was clarity on the petitions against Mr. Prasanna Kumar Reddy and Mr. Balanagi Reddy, who openly supported YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, as they were accompanied by evidence. A notice was, in fact, served on Mr. Prasanna Kumar Reddy in the past and he forwarded his explanation, but no further action was initiated into the issue.

There was a dilemma on whether the disqualification petition or resignation should be considered and the Advocate General has clarified about the legal position. As the TRS mounted pressure for accepting Mr. Srinivas Reddy's resignation citing former Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy who gave preference to the resignations submitted by six MLAs, the Deputy Speaker is reportedly looking into the issue before taking a final call.

Deputy Speaker will hold deliberations with Legislature secretary and legal council on the dDilemma of whether the disqualification petition or the resignation should be considered.
