Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir accused the Government of being negligent and indifferent to the Government hospitals and public health.
Mr. Shabbir demanded a white paper on the funds spent on the health sector saying that despite bloated allocations made in the annual budget the Government has spent little.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that 30 persons had died in Khammam with dengue and five patients lost their eyes after cataract operations in Sarojini hospital, besides five pregnant mothers dying of neglect at the Nilofuer Hospital in Hyderabad. All these reflect about the bad condition of the hospitals.
He wanted to know what happened to the Government’s promise of setting up a general hospital and a super speciality hospital in each constituency and said it was a shame that they just remained on paper.
Quoting from the reports of the UNICEF and CESS that about 35% to 45 % caesarean operations were performed in Telangana private hospitals against the healthy norm of 10% to 15 %, he said that the Government was blind to the ‘caesarean operations scam’ of ₹ 1,500 crore by private hospitals.
He also charged the IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao of supporting Seemandhra businessmen and politicians and questioned as to how film actress Samanta, who is marrying actor Nagarjuna’s son was made Handloom Ambassador of Telangana. He asked Mr. KTR to explain as to how N. Convention Centre of Nagarjuna was spared when the TRS itself has termed it as illegal.
Mr. Shabbir was angry that Mr. KTR was using abusive language to target senior Congress leaders and advised him to acquire stature before targetting veteran Congress leaders.
