Security clampdown on OU to stop beef fest

Telangana Police threw a security dragnet around the Osmania University campus here in Hyderabad on Thursday and made preventive arrests on Wednesday night to stop the proposed beef festival from taking place.

On Thursday morning, police stopped all outsiders from entering the campus by creating multiple checkpoints and barricading even the small entrances around the area.

If student leaders were picked up from the NRS Hostel, where the beef festival was scheduled to take place, the BJP leader Raja Singh, who opposed the festival and the MBT leader Amjadullah Khan, who backed the festival, were placed under house arrest for a few hours.

The arrested students are: Kota Srinivas, Harish Goud, Arunank, K. Bhadri, B. Karthik and Raghuram.
