As people flocked back to the State capital after the three days of festive activity at their native places in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, traffic increased on the National Highway 65 and toll plazas saw more rush.
Choutuppal Inspector of Police S. Naveen Kumar said that there was visible rush of people from Sunday evening and on Monday. Meanwhile, the Greater Hyderabad Zone of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation pressed 300 additional buses into service, a 10 per cent share over the above of the Zone’s daily operation of 3,520 scheduled on major high density corridors of the twin cities and surroundings as people returned from different parts of the neighbouring States, on January 16.
To coordinate the logistics, 28 Depot Managers and 120 Traffic Supervisors were posted at 34 locations in the Zone’s jurisdiction. Enforcement squads too were on duty at several locations, said the Zone’s Executive Director A. Purushotham.
Since 5 a.m. on Monday, the officers were available at the locations. Helpline numbers have been set up at Koti Communication Centre - 995 922 6160 and at Rathifile Communication Centre: 995 922 6154. When contacted, Executive Director, AP State Road Transport Corporation, G. Jaya Rao, said that apart from the 625 services of different categories that ply to Hyderabad from different parts of AP, they had operated 1,055 buses on Sunday and had laid on about 1,100 for Monday. As for the South Central Railway, because information as to the availability of additional berths and the operation of special trains were already made available to the public on a daily basis and SMS sent to passengers with reserved tickets, there was no sudden spurt in movement of people at the railway stations of, Kacheguda, Nampally and Secunderabad.
However, additional personnel posted for guiding passengers were present during the mornings and evenings, an official said.
