The battered Bahadurpura road leading to the Idgah Mir Alam will be laid by GHMC and the work will be completed before the beginning of Ramzan next month.
Although the road belonged to the R&B, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, directed the GHMC to take it up in view of the paucity of time.
At a meeting called to discuss Ramzan arrangements here on Saturday, Ms. Reddy, also the district in-charge Minister, asked GHMC to complete all road laying works, particularly in the old city, well before the onset of the holy month. Ministers -- D. Nagender, Mukesh Goud and Syed Ahmedullah were present.
Control room
GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma said an emergency control room would be set up at the Sardar Mahal to monitor works. The APCPDCL would also set up a similar cell at Charminar to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Earlier, Majlis legislators highlighted the pathetic condition of roads and drains in the old city. The sanitary conditions cried for attention. They wanted GHMC to clear the garbage thrice a day during Ramzan, especially around the mosques.
Mayor B. Kartika Reddy suggested involvement of corporators and ward committee members in the sanitation drive. Majlis floor leader in Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi wanted desilting of nalas to be done since it was a rainy season.
“Don't harass youth”
“This situation can't continue in Ramzan. Government should ensure power supply during ‘Sahr' and ‘Iftar' time and also late in the night”, Mr. Virasat Rasool Khan said.
He hinted at the possibility of circulation of fake currency when the city witnesses brisk shopping.
The legislators asked the police not to harass the youth in the name of traffic violations and go slow on issue of challans. Petty vendors on Patharghatti footpaths should not be disturbed.
Permission to shops
Police Commissioner A.K. Khan assured that shops would be permitted to stay open till late in the night. He felt the same relaxation should be given to shops in Cyberabad too. He assured push carts around mosques would be regulated and no one would be displaced.
