Paediatricians form women’s wing of IAP

In an attempt to have more influence in the functioning of Indian Academy Paediatrics (IAP) and focus more on women and care related to adolescent girls, women members of IAP announced the launch of its women’s wing here on Friday. Close to 5,000 women paediatricians, who are already the members of IAP, have now come together to form the Women’s Wing.

“Women paediatricians, due to several issues including lack of self motivation and encouragement from male members of IAP, had so far taken a back seat. However, it’s high time we are more assertive and play proactive role, especially in sharpening our focus on improving health status of women and adolescent girls, which is always neglected in India,” said National Convener for IAP, Women’s Wing, T. Himabindu Singh.

The IAP women’s wing will work on a host of aspects impacting issues of girl child including adolescents, their health, nutritional status and others.
