The CPI has described Praja Rajyam party's decision to enter into an understanding with the Congress as “suicidal”.
The CPI State secretariat which met here on Tuesday wondered how the PR, which claimed itself as an alternative to the Congress and the Telugu Desam in the State, could join hands with the ruling party and opined that PR president K. Chiranjeevi owes an explanation to people on the issue.
The CPI said Mr. Chiranjeevi's meeting with AICC president Sonia Gandhi is unlikely to have any impact on the State political scene, but would likely affect the Congress to some extent.
“Alliance with the Congress will prove disastrous to the PR as it is bound to be swallowed by the ruling party in due course,” the CPI said.
Finds fault
At the same time, the CPI found fault with TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu's statement that the Congress government is reaping the fruits of the development ushered in by the TDP regime.
Recalling the agitations launched by the Left parties against the TDP's policies, CPI State secretary K. Narayana said his party has the right to comment on the political statements made by the TDP in spite of the fact that the TDP joined hands with the Left in conducting agitations against the government's policies.
