February 11, 2017 11:55 pm | Updated 11:56 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

A test astronaut, who is also chief trainer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States of America, Ken Johnston was bowled over by the enthusiasm that hundreds of students showed during a visit to the B.M. Birla Science Centre here on Saturday.

The visit was facilitated by city-based company Spaceadhyaan, which works on bringing astronomy, space science and astro clubs together.

Mr. Johnston was impressed by the planetarium show, and in particular expressed pleasure over the 3D show about different aspects of the universe, said director of the science centre B.G. Siddharth.

The NASA trainer was surprised at the level of interest shown by the youth in everything connected to space and space science. His visit to India, Mr. Siddharth said, was primarily to connect with young people and showcase the different programmes that NASA was working on.

“Once here, he expressed his desire to visit our centre. And as he left, he promised he would be back very soon,” said Mr. Siddharth.
