A son decided to donate organs of his deceased father, who was fatally injured in a road accident in Gollapalem, Inkollu mandal, Prakasam district, under the state-run Jeevandan scheme on Saturday, March 22, a press release said.

After the accident, Sambasiva Rao, an agriculturist, was rushed immediately to NRI hospital in Vijayawada and was kept under the care of Dr. Srilatha.

According to Jeevandan officials, despite all out attempts, the doctors could not revive Sambasiva Rao and declared him brain dead on Sunday, March 23. The Jeevandan scheme co-ordinator from NRI Hospital, Ms. Rani met the deceased man’s son, Satyavardhan and tried to motivate him for organ donation.

Mr. Satyavardhan, who was flying to US for further studies, accepted the proposal to donate organs under the scheme.

The doctors retrieved two kidneys, one liver and two eyes and made arrangements to send them to a host of hospitals for transplantation.
