A sporting gesture from two of the finest sportspersons in contemporary era!
It was a ‘request’ from star cricketer Virat Kohli to Rio Olympics silver medallist P.V. Sindhu. And, the ace shuttler responded with humility by going to the Lal Bahadur stadium to meet visually impaired Indian cricketers, who were playing the semi-final T20 World Cup match there, to personally convey her support to the team, on Friday.
“In fact, these cricketers were on their way to meet me, but, unfortunately, their vehicle got stuck because of a flat tyre. Then, I decided to visit them instead and express solidarity to the way they pursue their passion for the sport,” Ms. Sindhu said.
Mr. Kohli spoke to Ms. Sindhu and requested her to meet the visually impaired cricketers as he could not due to the India-Bangladesh test match he was playing.
“It was an emotional experience for me on the whole. I am amazed at the way these players are responding to the sound of the bearings in the ball and playing their strokes, or bowling them. Truly remarkable and hats off to their sporting spirit,” Ms. Sindhu said.
The shuttler even posed for a photography, accompanied by Telangana Badminton Association vice-president V. Chamundeshwaranath.
“I thought it would be better to be at the ground to encourage them. This is a completely different but immensely satisfying experience,” she said.
