An entrepreneur. A scientist. An artist. A creative head. What makes a person, someone who can change the world? UK higher education possibilities open up opportunities, often in the most surprising way.

The British Council conducted the Great Britain Scholarships – India 2017 as part of the ‘GREAT BRITAIN’ campaign (“GREAT”) along with a new proposition ‘Study UK: Discover You’ here on Tuesday.

“Discover You” focuses on the experiences, knowledge and confidence that students can gain from a UK study through distance learning, online provision, and other models. Forty UK universities are participating in this programme and a total of 29 under-graduate and 169 post-graduate scholarships will be provided. Also on offer are 198 scholarships worth € 1 million.

Matthew Haines, Team Leader of British Council, said, “It’s a promotional event, though it is kind of commercial too. Every year from India 10,000 students are coming for Post-Graduation.”

When questioned about why universities are still stuck up with old education prospective courses like MBA, Engineering, etc., leaving creative phase, he states, “I am coming here for 10 years. There is no change in the Indian Market. The major share of students are still picking up MBA, engineering and medicine. But increasingly there are students who are willing to go with their passion like advertising, fashion and social media etc.”

British Council represents the education sector in the United Kingdom. It closely works with all the universities as it is Government education representative.
