With a few students taking admission in the government junior colleges in the district, the faculty members of Government Junior College for Girls in Doctors’ Street here have launched a campaign for enrolment of students into their college even before the completion of the present academic year.
The faculty members have prepared a pamphlet highlighting the facilities available in the government junior colleges and how they compare with private and corporate junior colleges. They compared the facilities available in the spacious government colleges with the private colleges housed in dingy rooms without any laboratories, library or grounds.
Quality education
The faculty members of government junior college have formed into groups and started visiting the government schools and KGBVs and educating the girl students about the importance of joining in government junior colleges for availing quality education.
They are motivating the girls, appearing for the SSC examination in March this year, to join their college in the academic year 2017-18. They are also turning into counsellors and providing career guidance and information on choice of courses to become doctors, engineers, agriculture scientists, chartered accountants and para-medical staff, among others.
The visiting lecturers are collecting the telephone numbers of the parents and guardians of the students to talk to them after the announcement of SSC results.
Counselling students
Subhashini, a faculty member of Government Junior College for Girls, who was seen visiting various government schools in the town, said that they were educating the girls about the courses offered such as MPC, BiPC, CEC, HEC and job-oriented vocational courses.
“We are also informing the students about the hostel facilities and midday meals in the college,” she said.
The students are being told that they would be provided special coaching for entrance examinations like Eamcet and DIETCET.
The Government Junior College faculty said that they would be visiting all the government high schools in the town and adjoining mandals for the enrolment of students into their college.
