To identify and develop alternative routes, officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Army met on Thursday. The meeting gained significance in the backdrop of the decision of Army officials to close main roads in the cantonment area to the general public from February 13. The GHMC identified a few routes and sent it to the State government for clearance.
A joint inspection of Army and GHMC officials would also survey the routes besides a discussion on the course of action against unauthorised structures posing an obstruction on certain routes.
GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said that near Banjara Hills pension office, road widening programme to make way for a free left would be initiated after the Army land was handed over to the GHMC. The proposals were already sent to the Army officials and they were yet to take a decision in this regard, he said.
