The YSR Congress has demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu take immediate steps to fulfil his pre-election promise of providing job to every household and ensure that the unemployed youth are paid Rs. 2,000 as allowance as assured by the Telugu Desam Party in the run up to the previous elections.

YSR Congress president and Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy lamented that 33 months after the TDP took over the reins of the State, the Government was yet to keep its promise of providing job to each household or payment of Rs. 2,000 a month as allowance to unemployed youth till they were given employment. The Government was due to pay Rs. 1.15 lakh crore to unemployed youth at the rate Rs. 66,000 each to the unemployed youth since it came to power in the State.

Open letter

In an open letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Jagan wanted the Government not to dilute its promise as had been done in the case of farm loan waiver and cutting down ration cards and other amenities to genuine beneficiaries through the “extra constitutional” Janmabhoomi committees. Given the state of affairs in the State in terms of investments and job creation which were not encouraging, the Government should implement its promise on a saturation mode to cover the entire unemployed youth.

Special status

“The Chief Minister, at the same time, failed to mount pressure on the Centre to grant special category status to the State that could result in huge employment generation,” he said. He attached the copy of the pamphlet distributed by the TDP incorporating its promise of job to each household during campaign for the previous elections.

“The letter is aimed at reminding the promises made by the Government and the demand is in line with the assurance given by the TDP,” he said. In the event of the Government failing to keep its promises, the YSR Congress would soon announce its future course of action soon to mount pressure on the Government.
