Senior faculty of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) and head of its Department of French Studies Nirupama Rastogi was conferred a prestigious award by the French government.
Prof. Rastogi, also the dean, School of Romance Studies at the university, was awarded Officier des Palmes Academiques in recognition of her contributions in diffusing French language and culture in India. Consul General of France Dominique Causse decorated her on behalf of the French government at a private ceremony here on Saturday.
Among the world's oldest orders of chivalry, the award was founded by Napolean and is given to individuals who contribute to spreading French national education and culture.
Prof. Rastogi has been teaching French at the central varsity for the last 38 years and has been in the French department since its inception. She was earlier a recipient of French scholarships and pursued her post graduate research and doctoral research in Paris. She spent seven years in Paris.
“This is a milestone in my career. I am happy. My family is here. My friends are here,” she said.
