Four persons, including two B. Tech students, were arrested for making and circulating fake ₹ 2,000 currency notes by the Shamshabad zone police. Officials seized the fake notes amounting to ₹ 34.8 lakh from their possession. The accused were identified as Vijay Sharma (40), Mohtesham Ali (45), Wajeehuddin Khan (20) and Abdul Samad (20).

The fraud had come to light on February 2 after the person running a canteen at Wajeehuddin’s college lodged a complaint with the police that he and his friend Abdul Samad had given him a fake ₹ 2000 note. A case was registered. Wajeehuddin and Samad, both students of Lord’s College, were arrested along with the other two accused soon after.

According to police , Vijay Sharma and Mohtesham were both facing financial difficulties, due to which they decided to make fake currency and pay their debtors. Vijay purchased a printer cum scanner and photostat machine and began making the fake currency at home without his family knowing about it. Mohtesham was given ₹ 22 lakh in fake notes by Vijay to clear off his debts with it.

Wajeehuddin, Mohtesham’s nephew and his friend Samad were given ₹ 2 lakh each in fake notes to be circulated in their college as well.
