Eye operations report sent to government

September 08, 2010 03:20 pm | Updated 03:20 pm IST - Hyderabad:

A report about the botched up eye operations done at the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital has recently been submitted to the government. The report doesn't find fault with any doctor or other hospital staff. “We can't pinpoint error on anybody's part since a whole team was involved in the operations. It is for the government to decide,” said Dr. M. Vidyavati, superintendent, S.D. Hospital.

The operating surgeons, fluids, consumables and instruments used in the operation were thoroughly checked. “But we did not find any organism growth. The patients suffered loss of vision due to infection, but we are not able to identify the source,” Dr. Vidyavati said.

Of the 22 persons operated, five developed complications. One person, Ramulu, lost total vision while Manemma, Shantamma and Rashamma have shown improvement after treatment.
