It is time for the Indian Premier League. This is the message from the city-based Deccan Chargers which clearly slipped into the mood ahead of the IPL starting from April 8.

The promotional event saw almost all its players present to unveil the team apparel from Puma, the sponsor of Chargers, on Monday night.

Within a week after India's grand victory in the 2011 World Cup, it is time for some exciting cricket for the crazy fans in the city.

The IPL will provide them a huge opportunity to have a glimpse of the big stars as the city will host seven matches at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here, according to the Chargers camp.

South African speedster Dayle Steyn remarked the beauty of cricket is that it ensures that there are not too many enemies. “You play for your country in the World Cup and within days, you play with a mix of quality players from other countries in the IPL. It should be an exciting experience in the next 45 days,” he said.

Another South African, J.P. Duminy, who played for Mumbai Indians in the last edition, hoped that his experience would come in handy for the Chargers this time around.

Questioned whether he would give some tips to Ojha to get rid of his former IPL captain Sachin Tendulkar, he just smiled and said: “I hope I can make an impact.” Rajiv Mehta, MD of Puma, said the brand is synonymous with style, comfort, and success, which he feels are also the features of Chargers in its campaign to regain the trophy.

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakarra, who was named captain of Chargers, and Australian Cameron White, the newly appointed vice-captain, were not present.

Hard work

Chargers coach Darren Lehmann reminded the select audience that the team had already put in a lot of hard work.

He was hopeful of many good things happening this time around too.
