Following up his announcement in the just-concluded winter session of the Assembly, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked officials to make arrangements for the conduct of District Selection Committee exam to recruit Urdu teachers exclusively for Urdu medium schools and colleges.
He also wanted them to issue a notification for DSC based on availability of vacancies, a release after he held a review meeting on minorities’ welfare said. It added that Mr. Raoalso wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking steps to conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Urdu medium.
Since NEET was conducted in some regional languages, the facility should be extended to Urdu medium students as Urdu was recognised as second official language in the State and many students opted for it.
Upgradation
He ordered the upgradation of the Government Junior College in Falaknuma to a degree college and sanctioned ₹10 crore, while also releasing funds for self-financing courses in 17 junior and four degree colleges. Mr. Rao wanted an Islamic cultural-cum-convention centre at a cost of ₹ 40 crore on a six-acre wakf land in Manikonda and asked for plans and designs for the same.
The Chief Minister sanctioned ₹21 crore for an orphanage at Anees-ul-Gurba at Nampally over 4,000 square yards, comprising a multi-storeyed complex.
Other decisions made on the occasion included release of ₹8.48 crore for developing the Mecca Masjid, apart from which he signed a file increasing monthly remuneration of Imams and Mauzams from ₹1,000 to ₹ 1,500 and an exclusive special economic zone for Muslims.
Review of programmes
The Chief Minister also reviewed programmes on drinking water supply, irrigation, agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, sheep-rearing and more subjects at Pragathi Bhavan.
With a majority of people living on agriculture, they needed help with answers to questions they had on the best cropping patterns, marketing strategies, crops in demand and farm mechanisation, he pointed said.
