Justice U. Durga Prasada Rao of A.P. High Court on Monday refused to grant bail to underworld don Abu Salem.
The judge was dealing with an appeal filed by Abu Salem who challenged the judgment of the special CBI court which had convicted him in a fake passport case.
Abu Salem requested the High Court to grant interim bail pending final adjudication of the appeal.
The judge said that the final arguments in the appeal will be heard from December 20 and refused to grant bail.
Petition on safety governors in busesA Division Bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar on Monday directed that the writ petition filed regarding safety governors which fix the outer speed limit for passenger buses be listed for next week along with the batch of writ petitions filed after the recent Volvo Bus accident in Mahabubnagar killing 45 people.
The writ petition was filed by Srinivas who said that the State government initially issued a Government Order declaring that every bus shall be fixed with a safety governor which would restrict the maximum speed.
Later, the State government issued another G.O. suspending this.
The petition challenged the second G.O. stating that the lives of passengers were at peril.
Godavari waters: directive to StateThe Division Bench directed the State government, especially the Irrigation Department, to make a comprehensive enquiry and take action regarding allegations of over utilisation of Godavari waters by ITC Bhadrachalam Paper Mills.
The writ petitioner complained that the water was being pumped out of Godavari for 24 hours without permission, and it had affected other citizens.
The Bench felt that the issue needs to be investigated comprehensively.
The Bench reminded that utilisation of natural resources were to be property regulated.
