Justice L. Narasimha Reddy of the High Court on Wednesday directed the police and authorities of Osmania University to grant permission for the proposed meeting of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Arts College subject to condition that the students’ organisation gives undertaking on various issues.
The court was dealing with a writ petition filed by Ramakrishna representing the ABVP. He complained that on a letter written by the police officers, the Osmania University authorities refused permission for the public meeting it had proposed to conduct to conclude its mega march across Telangana area demanding separate statehood.
He also alleged that others were permitted to hold meetings. The government contended that the Supreme Court had given certain guidelines and a three member committee was appointed and in such backdrop the meeting can not be permitted. The judge pointed out that the guidelines referred to by the officers were pertaining to peculiar situation which had arisen then and the committee has not yet made its final recommendations.
Conditions
The judge said that the petitioner student body has to give written undertaking that peace and tranquillity of the campus shall not be disturbed, the exams if any shall not be interfered with and public property will be safeguarded. The authorities were directed to grant permission.
