City missing from Swachh Sarvekshan survey

January 05, 2017 12:33 am | Updated 12:33 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Even before the Swachh Sarvekshan results for the year 2017 are announced, the city found itself in an ‘exceptional’ place and the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) received a rare distinction. Among the list of 500 cities which will be ranked for various parameters, Hyderabad was the only city which went missing in the citizens feedback form uploaded on the website. Instead, GHMC found its way along other cities to be selected while participating in the online survey which began on Wednesday.

Metros including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and other cities were spared of this erroneous entry.

The Swachh Sarvekshan 2017 has allotted 600 points out of 2,000 for the Direct Citizen Feedback through toll-free number and website. In the last year’s survey, Hyderabad fared poorly in this category and stood 19 among 73 in the overall rankings. With 271 points in the ‘Citizens Feedback’ category, Hyderabad lagged behind even Warangal, Vizag and Vijayawada in AP and Telangana States.

While the GHMC has been trying to create awareness about the survey and encourage citizens to participate in it, technical issues seem to pose a bigger challenge to the city in performing better than the last time.

“I called up 1969 to record my response to the questions asked as part of the survey. I could not complete the process as my area pin code was not being recognised,” said a resident of Begumpet. “I tried more than twice but the same problem occurred. I think it is because of a bug and I hope the officials rectify the problem soon.”

The GHMC officials who are aware of the issue are working towards addressing it.

“It has been brought to our notice. We are in touch with the people concerned to add the city name in the list. It will be done soon.” said GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy.
