Chiru’s 150th film to be directed by V.V. Vinayak

Touted to be a remake of the Tamil hit Kaththi, launch of the movie is scheduled on April 29

Has the long wait ended? It looks so, if reports coming out of a swank residence on Road No. 25, Jubilee Hills are to be believed. Actor-turned-Rajya Sabha member K. Chiranjeevi is said to have finally given the nod to director V.V. Vinayak to wield the megaphone for his 150{+t}{+h}film.

The pooja to launch the film will be a private affair at 1.30 p.m. on April 29. Needless to say, it will be strictly out of bounds for the media. The banner is yet to be finalised though. It has been a rather longish wait – almost six years — for the actor himself, not to speak of his ‘Mega’ fans. But for at least a year now, it has been known that it could be a remake of the Tamil hit Kaththi that had actor Vijay in the lead role. The Tamil film that hit the screens on October 22, 2014 was written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss and was produced by Lyca Productions. While Mr. Vinayak will helm the project, it is said Mr. Murugadoss has been asked to make suitable changes for Telugu audiences. For the record, Mr. Chiranjeevi’s son Ramcharan will be the producer and the star’s wife Surekha may be presenting it. However, ‘Tagore’ Madhu, a friend of the megastar, and Lyca Productions too, could be involved as co-producers. After Tagore that released on September 24, 2003, this will be the second time that Chiranjeevi and Vinayak will work together. When asked at a recent function, Mr. Chiranjeevi said he had been narrated several subjects that were rather heavy and revolved around action, fantasy, mythology or the concept of a ‘superhero’. However, he made it clear that he was looking for a plain and simple entertainer. Interestingly, after September 10, 2015, when Bruce Lee The Fighter starring Ramcharan released, maverick filmmaker Ramgopal Varma had tweeted that Mr. Chiranjeevi’s film would actually be his 151{+s}{+t}movie and not 150{+t}{+h}as was being touted. His contention was that the megastar had already appeared in a cameo in his son’s film.
