KHAMMAM: Chilli growers staged a demonstration in front of the Agricultural Market Yard here on Monday in protest against alleged denial of remunerative price for their produce by some errant traders at the market yard.

The market witnessed a sudden fall in price of red chilli and higher arrival of stocks to the tune of 35,000 bags on Monday.

The agitated farmers led by the leaders of the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (Chandranna Group) squatted at the entrance of the market yard demanding remunerative price for their chilli produce.

The protesters raised slogans accusing the errant traders of forming a syndicate to exploit the gullible farmers.

They alleged that a section of the traders offered them a price much below ₹9,000 a quintal at a time when red chilli was commanding a price of ₹12,500 a quintal elsewhere in the State.

The market officials arrived at the spot and explained to the protesting farmers about the factors that led to the downtrend in the market.

The officials reportedly attributed the fall in chilli price to the State-wide phenomenon of poor domestic demand, among other reasons.
