CPI(M) seeks Raja Singh’s dismissal from Legislative Assembly

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has severely objected to BJP MLA Raja Singh’s “inflammatory” speech shared on YouTube, and demanded his immediate dismissal from membership in Telangana Legislative Assembly.

A press statement on Monday from the party’s State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said the speech, on the pretext of cow protection, seemed to encourage attacks on Dalits and minorities, besides violating their constitutional rights.

It creates fear among the underprivileged communities, challenges their food habits, and promotes communal hatred, the note said.

Citing judgements by Madras High Court in the past and the Supreme Court of India recently, it said they advised against interference in people’s food habits, and termed such controls as being against fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.

Mr. Singh is known for such “inflammatory” speeches, the party alleged, and demanded that all his speeches on YouTube be taken suo-motu cognisance of, and inquired into. The party demanded Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s intervention in getting Mr. Singh arrested.
