Om Puri has acted only in two Telugu films, one being Ankuram that won him a national award

One straight film that catapulted him to critical acclaim and another dubbed film. His third and the last one in the Telugu film industry, Ghazi , is soon to be released.

This is the filmography of 66-year-old veteran actor Om Puri who breathed his last on Friday morning. Not just as a Bollywood actor par excellence, film buffs and connoisseurs of Telugu cinema will remember the award-winning Telugu film Ankuram (1993) that he acted in, with Revathi.

A year before that he worked with Revathi in a horror-thriller was dubbed as Rathri in Telugu. The veteran actor made a powerful impact in the little appearance he made on Telugu screens - just two films so far. In Ankuram that got him a national award, he essays the role of Satyam, an escaped convict. His last movie in Telugu would be Ghazi , the one starring Rana Daggubati, in which he plays a naval head and appears in the opening scenes. Mr. Rana tweeted his regrets at hearing the news of Om Puri’s death and remembered how it was working with him in Ghazi .

Director Indraganti Mohanakrishna said, “For me he defined what realistic acting was. He taught an entire generation of young actors and filmmakers what acting was all about, with his versatility, perfection and uncanny ability to inhabit the character he played.”

“I would like to become like the actor Om Puri some day,” was what actor Naseeruddin Shan once said about him.

Director Krish Jagarlamudi of Gamyam and Vedam fame, who is all set to release his latest, Gautamiputra Satakarni said in a voice choked with emotion that people had lost one of the great actors of the land.
