It is an initiative that seeks to rescue several decades old trees from getting chopped off mercilessly and offer them a fresh lease of life.
Threat
The Society for Awareness and Vision on Environment (SAVE), the city-based environmental group, has taken up translocation of around 60 trees that otherwise faced the threat of an axe at the ESI premises in Erragadda. The voluntary group on Saturday translocated several of these trees in front of Jalavihar on the Necklace Road. “We will be shifting about 15 trees to this stretch itself,” he informed. About 300 trees are to be removed to pave way for construction of a new medical college there, said Vijaya Ram of Society for Awareness and Vision on Environment. The cost involved in translocation of each tree worked out between Rs.30,000 to Rs.40,000 with a major component of it being the charges for crane, trailer and JCB. “The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has promised to support us by providing a crane and that will reduce the burden,” Mr.Vijaya Ram added.
