Veteran cine actor Jamuna has asserted that she still has political ambitions to pursue. The actor was in the city to receive Mahanati Savitri Award. On the occasion, she showered praises on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder president N. T. Rama Rao and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Mr. Rama Rao created a history in politics by coming to power within 9 months of starting a political party. Mr. Naidu is also good statesman and striving hard to develop the State. His efforts should be recognized. Andhra Pradesh can be developed far better than Hyderabad, she said.

Recollecting her stint in politics, Ms. Jamuna said that she served as Chairperson of A.P. Nataka Academy during Congress rule in the united Andhra Pradesh, and also won as MP from Rajahmundry. She, however, was quick to add, “I don’t know whether I my age permits me. But, I am willing to serve the people.”

When asked whether she has any inclination to join the TDP, 78-year old actor said, “I am willing to serve any party that extends invitation.”

She joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during Atal Behari Vajpayee tenure. She even campaigned for BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya. Pointing out, when asked about her relations with the BJP, Ms. Jamuna said, “I haven’t submitted any resignation to the BJP. But, I don’t know whether I am still a member of that party.” Stating that she was very much impressed with policies and statesmanship of Mr. Vajpayee, Ms. Jamuna said, “Modi garu is also equally impressive.”

Ms. Jamuna plunged into politics following an invitation from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi when Mr. Rama Rao formed the TDP. Ms. Gandhi invited her into Congress fold to counter charisma of Mr. Rama Rao.
