80,000 families to get land of their own

Under Land Regularisation Scheme, State government to hand over titles for nearly 1,500 acres in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts

June 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Nearly 80,000 families in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts will be rid of their ‘encroacher’ tag after Tuesday, when the State government gives away titles to nearly 1,500 acres of land in the two districts.

At the behest of the State government, the two district administrations have drawn up plans to start patta distribution in a big way as the Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) is one of the government’s pet schemes. In both districts, the computerised pattas have been drawn up in the names of the woman of the house in most households. In Hyderabad district, 18,500 applicants were eligible while Ranga Reddy district administration found around 61,000 applicants eligible under GO 58 that allows regularisation of land under 125 square yards without payment.
