Ichoda police in Adilabad district on Thursday came to the rescue of people needing urgent help in a flood-like situation in and around the mandal headquarter village. Led by CI S. Satish Kumar, they evacuated six new born babies and their mothers, besides a pregnant woman, from the primary health centre which was getting flooded with water.
Policemen initially faced difficulty in making the women agree to their proposal for evacuation.
They however, succeeded and rigged a lifeline to the NH 44 passing closer to the PHC and evacuated them and admitted them to RIMS Hospital in Adilabad.
The police also evacuated about 650 girl students of the Tribal Welfare Residential High School and College located by the side of the NH 44, about a km away from Ichoda. A hill stream had breached its banks and water had entered the classrooms and dormitory.
