In a tragic incident, five members of a family from Maharashtra on pilgrimage to Tirupati were killed, while four others sustained injuries when the SUV they were travelling in rammed a stationary lorry at Pahadisharif on the Outer Ring Road in the early hours of Friday.
The injured were shifted to a corporate hospital in L.B. Nagar and they were out of danger.
The vehicle started from Maharashtra on Thursday night. It entered the ORR and was going from Gachibowli to Hayathnagar side when the accident occurred at around 6 a.m., Shamshabad ACP J. Bhadreshwar said. Driver of the lorry laden with sand parked the vehicle on roadside and went to the open land to answer the nature’s call.
“Yogendra Katre, who was driving the SUV, failed to notice the lorry and crashed into it from behind,” the ACP said. While Katre, Sukhadev, Prabha Bai and Manoj suffered critical injuries, five others –Vidya Yogendra Katre, B. Bharath, Pavaran Bai, Vatsala Bai and Dheenu Bai died on the spot.
The SUV hit the lorry apparently at high speed.It got stuck underneath lorry and the police removed it with much difficulty.
