The city police on Friday night took into custody 282 youth who were found moving on roads and gathering at street corners late in the nights. They also seized 12 motorcycles.
About 10 police teams under the supervision of DCP (South) V. Satyanarayana participated in the exercise called “Operation Late Night Road – Yos”. Many youth were caught for moving around in groups on motorcycles late in the nights. “Most of them do not have valid driving license. They drive recklessly endangering their lives and that of other road users,” DCP (South) V. Satyanarayana said.
The police also raided hookah centres and snooker parlours. Four cases were registered against the managements for violating the rules. This apart, the police also detained youth for gathering at street corners and creating nuisance in the neighbourhood.
“We do not intend to harass anyone. The exercise is aimed at bringing down late night nuisance reported on roads and colonies,” the official said. The police also rounded up vendors who conduct business late in the nights at different stretches like Teegalkunta, Charminar, Panch Mahalla and Bahadurpura.
All those who were detained were let off after counselling by the police.
