Immigration officials, in the wee hours of Wednesday, stopped at least 20 women from boarding a flight bound for a West Asian country over questionable visas. They were then handed over to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport police.
RGIA inspector G. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy said that 19 of those detained belong to AP while one hails from Tamil Nadu. They wanted to travel to Kuwait by Air India. “They were about to travel on visit visas. We believe that after reaching Kuwait, they wanted to start working. A visit visa does not allow one to work. We are conducting inquiries and details will come out soon,” he said.
A case has been booked under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for cheating purpose) and 471 (using forged document and passing it off as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.
On Sunday, 10 persons, including seven women, were detained after they were found trying to travel on allegedly fake visas. Earlier, on March 6, nine women were booked for attempting to travel to Kuwait on visit visas.
