175 neighbourhood clinics in city by December

The Medical and Health Department is gearing up to open 28 neighbourhood clinics at one go in the first week of September in the twin cities and these would be increased to 175 by December.

The final number is to have 500 such clinics covering all the areas by next summer, said Health Minister K. Laxman Rao and Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday.

The Ministers informed that the existing 22 neighbhourhood clinics had got good response from the citizens and there were plans to open five each in Nizamabad and Kariminagar soon. Another 12 such clinics were to be opened in Warangal too in the first phase in the other urban local bodies.

Presiding over a meeting held with senior officials including Shanti Kumari (medical & health) and Arvind Kumar (MA & UD), Health Commissioner V. Karuna and others at Mr. Rao’s camp office in Begumpet, it was also stated that the government was committed towards strengthening the medical and health infrastructure all over the State especially in the urban areas.

All the neighbourhood clinics were to be mapped online for the convenience of citizens. Diagnostic labs, one for each district, are also to be opened soon. Mayor B. Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and others were also present.
