16 injured as RTC bus rams tree

Driver of the vehicle bound for Pragnapur develops convulsions

February 03, 2014 12:36 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:55 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Sixteen passengers sustained injuries after the APSRTC bus in which they were travelling rammed a tree at Thumkunta village under Shamirpet police station limits on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred when the ‘Palle Velugu’ bus was proceeding towards Pragnapur in Gajwel from Jubilee Bus Station in Secunderabad. On reaching Thumkunta, the 40-year-old driver Krishnaiah developed convulsions, after which the bus took a left turn and hit a tree on the roadside resulting in injuries to 16 people, said Shamirpet Sub-Inspector P. Prabhakar Reddy.

Close to 80 passengers were in the bus. Krishnaiah was driving the vehicle slowly because of potholes on the Rajiv Rahadari highway and this averted a major accident.

A case under Section 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC was booked against the driver.

“We are trying to collect more details from senior RTC officials about Krishnaiah’s health condition and later action will be taken against him,” Mr. Reddy said.
